The Partition Museum is the first museum in the world dedicated to the Partition of India, one of the most defining events in the history of the subcontinent and the largest mass migration in human history, affecting up to 20 million people. Housed in the historic Town Hall building in Amritsar, a 5 to 7 minute walk from the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh, it takes visitors through seven galleries of archival materials, artworks, refugee artefacts and oral stories that tell the story in the voices of those who lived through the times. It is a People Museum, built through public donations and stories, and it ends at the Tree of Hope where visitors leave their reflections on green leaves.
